Action / Use
ACTION: Plant Growth Regulator.
USE: For cotton, grapes, vegetables, mango, tobacco, ornamentals, and greenhouse use on azaleas, poinsettias, geraniums, and hibiscus.
FORMULATIONS: Aqueous solution, dust, powder, liquid, soluble concentrate.
PREMIX PARTNERS: Ethephon; Mepiquat Chloride.

Identification

COMMON NAME: Chlormequat chloride (ISO, BSI).

Chemistry

COMPOSITION: 2-Chloroethyltrimethylammonium chloride.
PROPERTIES: Tech: Solid, yellowish; very hygroscopic crystals. Solubility at 20℃ in ethanol 320 g/kg. Density at 20℃: 1.14-1.15 g/ml.


Environmental Guidelines

HAZARDS: Fish: LC50 >100 mg/l (96 h) (trout). Bird: Oral LD50 555 mg/kg b.w. (Japanese quail). Bee: Nontoxic.
WATER SOLUBILITY: >1 kg/kg at 20℃.

Safety Guidelines

TOXICITY: Tech (Rat): Oral LD50 883 mg/kg. Dermal LD50 >4000 mg/kg. CCC*: (Rat): Oral LD50 1100 mg/kg. Cycocel-Extra* (Rat): LD50 2836 mg/kg. Dermal: LD50 >5650 mg/kg. Lihocin* (Rat): LD50 709 mg/kg.
HANDLING/STORAGE CAUTIONS: Avoid inhalation of spray, prolonged or repeated contact with skin. Clothing should be removed and washed thoroughly after handling chemical.
SPILL CONTROL/CLEANUP: Large spillages should be dammed-off and pumped into containers; soak up remainder with absorbent material and dispose of in accordance with local regulations.
PRODUCT/WASTE DISPOSAL: Must be disposed of by special means, e.g., suitable incineration, in accordance with local regulations.

Emergency Guidelines

ANTIDOTE: Atropine is contraindicated. Oral administration only of choline salts (Do NOT administer intravenously).
FIRST AID: Get medical aid. Symptomatic treatment. Ingestion: do not induce vomiting unless advised by a physician.
