Action / Use
ACTION: Herbicide.
USE: Postemergence with no residual effect against grass and broadleaf weeds in rice.
FORMULATIONS: Emulsifiable concentrate, liquid, dry flowable.
PREMIX PARTNERS: Anilofos; Bensulfuron-methyl; Bentazone; Bromoxynil; Butachlor; Clomazone; 2,4-D; Fentrazamide; MCPA; Metsulfuron-methyl; Molinate; Pendimethalin; Pyrazosulfuron-ethyl; Quinclorac; Thiobencarb; Triclopyr.

Identification

COMMON NAME: Propanil (ISO, BSI, WSSA); DCPA (JMAF).

Chemistry

COMPOSITION: N-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)propanamide.
CLASS: Anilide.
PROPERTIES: Solid, white-gray. Melting point 91.5℃. Molecular weight 218.1. Vapor pressure 2.6 x 10-7 mbar. Herbax* Tech completely soluble in ketones, alcohols, chlorinated hydrocarbons; moderately soluble in xylene, benzene, and toluene. Riselect* readily soluble in ketones (60% in isophorone at 25℃), alcohols (54% in ethanol at 25℃), ethers, and chlorinated hydrocarbons; moderately soluble in aromatic solvents. Sparingly soluble in aromatic solvents.

 

Environmental Guidelines
DEGRADATION/METABOLISM: Half-life in soil 1.5 days.
HAZARDS: Fish: LC50 14 ppm (bluegill); 13 ppm (rainbow trout). Bird: Dietary LC50 2861 ppm (bobwhite quail), 5627ppm (mallard); Oral LD50 201 mg/kg (quail).
SOIL PARTICLE ADSORPTION: Moderate.
WATER SOLUBILITY: Sparingly soluble, 0.13 g/l at 25℃.

Safety Guidelines

TOXICITY: Tech (Rat): Oral LD50 >2500 mg/kg b.w.; Dermal >5000 mg/kg.
SPILL: Large spillages should be dammed-off and pumped into containers; soak up remainder with absorbent material and dispose of in accordance with local regulations. Eliminate ignition sources. Ventilate area. Avoid breathing vapors..
PRODUCT/WASTE: Must be disposed of by special means, e.g., suitable incineration, in accordance with local regulations. Contact your state pesticide or environmental control agency.
HANDLING/STORAGE: Do not contaminate water, food, or feed by storage and disposal.
