ACTION: Fungicide; Seed Treatment/Protectant.
USE: Variety of fungus diseases on small fruits, berries, ornamentals, vegetables. Slurry, dry treatment, and plant-box application for seed treatment.
FORMULATIONS: Dust, flowable, wettable powder.
PREMIX PARTNERS: Bitertanol; Carboxin; Cyproconazole; Fenhexamid; Hexaconazole; Imidacloprid; Metalaxyl; Penconazole; Pencycuron; Pyrifenox; Triadimenol.

Identification

COMMON NAME: Captan (BSI, ISO-E, JMAF); Captane (ISO-F); Captab (South Africa).

Chemistry

COMPOSITION: N-trichloromethylthio-4-cyclohexene-1,2-dicarboximide (1).
PROPERTIES: Pure: white solid. Melting point 175℃. Tech guaranteed 90% (92%). Very low solubility in organic solvents. Insoluble in petroleum oils. Solubility at 25℃: in xylene 20 g/kg; chloroform 70 g/kg; acetone 20 g/kg; cyclohexanone 20 g/kg; 2-propanol 1 g/kg.

Environmental Guidelines

HAZARDS: Fish: LC50 0.066-0.080 ppm (96 h) (rainbow trout); 0.047-0.111 ppm (bluegill). Bird: LC50 >2400 ppm (quail).
WATER SOLUBILITY: <5 mg/l at room temperature.

Safety Guidelines

TOXICITY: (Rat): Oral LD50 9000 mg/kg.
HANDLING/STORAGE CAUTIONS: Avoid contact with skin or clothing. Wash hands and face thoroughly with soap and water after use and before eating or smoking. Store in a cool, dry place.
